There is actually a small cemetery, a forest grave that actually belongs to Bensberg, but the graves belong to Cologne. The man buried here bequeathed the spot of his hometown Cologne. So he was probably not a poor man from Cologne, because he donated his real estate and cash assets to the city of Cologne, probably on the condition that he was allowed to lie there with his mastiffs.
The city of Cologne always laid two wreaths on All Saints' Day, one at his grave, one at the grave of the dogs.
