Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)
Includes a segment in which cycling is forbidden
You will have to dismount and push your bike.
Can walk or cycle along the towpath of the derelict Cromford Canal. Parts of the canal are still in water but not navigable but helping with a variety of wildlife. Towards the eastern part of the route, there are lots of old locks (with the lock gates removed) so plenty of industrial heritage to explore.
The towpath is well surfaced with crushed stone. There are a couple of narrow bridges but wide enough for a conventional bike - a tricycle or similar would have problems.
Nice reservoir to stop at for a rest or bird watching (except when it rains as it did on my visit!).
