The conflict between East and West after World War II, known as the "Cold War", led to the Western Allies setting up military bases in the Federal Republic of Germany.

This included the largest ammunition depot of the British Rhine Army in West Germany, the 3 Base Ammunition Depot in Brüggen Bracht. For almost fifty years, a unique heath landscape with rare animal and plant diversity was able to develop in this military restricted area on nutrient-poor drifting sand soils. Due to its valuable habitats, the 12 sq km area was placed under nature conservation. After it was closed in 1996 due to the changed political situation, the area became the property of the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Nature Conservation, Homeland and Cultural Care and the Economic Development Company for the Viersen District mbH.

A beautiful forest that allows you to see game, especially in the early morning hours.
