    Tips

The Timmelsjoch Pass from the Italian side is one of the most outstanding pass journeys in the Alps. The elevation gain of a good 1,800 meters on the main climb from St. Leonhard is on par with the nearby Stelvio Pass. Even if the number of switchbacks looks poor compared to the Timmelsjoch, the route and views are equally spectacular, even breathtaking. Two long tunnels can somewhat dampen the fun in heavy traffic (aka motorcycles...). And it's worth bearing in mind that you're climbing from 600 meters (from Merano even from 300 meters) to 2,500 meters. Even in midsummer, you can get chilly at the top of the pass, so a windbreaker is definitely recommended.

Opening hours until 20:00 clock, in the dark but very dangerous and better not to drive.

Two longer tunnels also require caution.

Since the renovations 4 years ago, the Jaufenpass descent has been very easy to manage. There are only a few passages where the roads are not perfect!

The tunnels are a bit tricky. You need confidence or a very bright light.

It's my dream to climb the Timmelsjoch on a road bike, wonderful and highly recommended 🚴🏼‍♂️
At countless points, the view opens up again and again into the valley or up to the mountain peaks, which is simply beautiful for the eyes and soul.
But, up at the pass, it also has its pitfalls; because it's unpredictable, because even in the middle of summer there's ice and snow, and the pass can sometimes be closed...

Here we have to persevere But the last hairpin bends give you the feeling that you are almost there. And the view is just terrific.

The tour is strenuous, there are two confusing landscapes, and it's bad at the weekend because there are a lot of wild drivers and motorbikes.

This enormous effort is worth it for three reasons:
1 The view down on the hairpin bends.
2 The panoramic view at the top is something I will never forget.
                                        3 Pain passes; pride remains.

The classic climb to the Timmelsjoch, as you might know it from the Ötztal Cycle Marathon. But the route is also fun as a descent, provided there aren't too many cars in front of you and the road is dry.

Technical details: 29 km of climb with 1,783 meters of elevation gain and an average gradient of 6.2%.
This is the Italian side of one of the best passes in the Alps. It offers a wonderful variety of landscapes, with a winding road in perfect condition and many alternatives: a succession of hairpin bends, along cliffs with tunnels in the rock, very difficult sections, and rest areas. The final stretch with the succession of hairpin bends and rocky mountains is usually the most spectacular, but the image I have most clearly in my head is the intermediate section of galleries.
