“THROONE OF THE QUEEN” OR “CAREGA OF THE DIAOL”

If you explore the rocks near you, you will find a special one, with a mysterious engraving. It will not be easy to read what is written, time has worn away the stone. I'll give you a hand:

below is the transcription made by the scholars: Pliammus, Terti Mandilonis f(ilius), sibi et Primae libertae ux(ori)

It's complicated, huh! It is written in Latin, it seems like a short sentence but it gives us a lot of information. It is a Roman funerary inscription from the 1st century AD and tells us about a man named Pliammo. It says that Pliammo was the son of Terzo Mandilo and that he wanted to build a tomb for himself and his wife. The wife's name was Prima and she was a freed slave (liberta). Archaeologists have found no trace of the bodies of Pliammo and Prima and I don't even remember where they were buried.
