The temple is located in Pingwang Town, Suzhou. It was built during the Tang Dynasty (which spans 618 to 907 CE). It was rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty (1368~1644). The temple area covers about 100 mu (equals about 6.5 hectar). The temple is among the more famous temples in Suzhou and has undergone major reconstruction over the past years.
