The horse's head is the southwestern foothills of the Wasserkuppe in the Rhön. It is located near Poppenhausen in the Hessian district of Fulda and is of volcanic origin. Great view in all directions and slightly below the Quellkuppenmassiv, to which one should also go. Among other things, the horse's head can be reached from the Guckaisee on a short but very steep path.

    A memorial with history
In the middle of the First World War, in 1916, the number of victims increased daily. This fate, in a sad and sad time, gives people the opportunity to give greater importance to the Christian faith in God.
And so the idea takes shape, erecting a high cross as a memorial for the fallen of the parish Poppenhausen.

The climb from the Guckaisee is always a good mountain training. And the visibility goes in good weather to the Taunus.

Here is one of the few places on the Rhön where you can still see how the lava flowed down the mountain.
