The old town is the historic center of this Breton port city and is located on a peninsula surrounded by mighty granite walls. It was faithfully rebuilt after the Second World War and today captivates with its narrow streets, old town houses, and maritime flair. Saint-Malo was once a famous corsair town, whose sailors sailed on behalf of the king. Among the most important sights are the Saint-Vincent Cathedral, the Château de Saint-Malo, the city walls with their circular walkway, and the island of Grand Bé, where the writer Chateaubriand is buried.
