On December 26, 1918, Ignacy Jan Paderewski spoke from the hotel balcony to the gathered crowd of Poznań residents, indirectly (or even directly), giving a signal for an armed uprising against the Germans. The Greater Poland Uprising was one of the few successful uprisings in Polish history.
