The Golzern paper factory was built in 1862. Printing and special papers were produced here.
A three-meter-high weir in the hollow secured the energy supply. In 1877 Golzern received a connection to the railway network.
After the fall of the Wall, operations ended in 1990. After Papierfabrik Golzern GmbH was founded, production was resumed in 1993 with the production of format and roll goods as well as packaging and crepe papers.
During the floods in 2002 and 2013, the hollow reached such a high level that parts of the paper mill were flooded and severely damaged. For this reason, this location was completely abandoned for paper production.
