The castle grounds are not locked and can always be visited. From here you have a great view of the Mulde.

Döben Castle is an old imperial castle to protect the Mulde crossing, which was built in the 10th century with the eastward expansion of the Roman Empire and the subjugation of the Slavs. Unfortunately there is nothing left of the castle. In 1947 it was blown up on the orders of the SMAD to gain building material. The remaining ruins were blown up in 1972. The von Behlow family bought the remaining parts of the building from the BVVG trust in 1992 and renovated them.
In 1188 the Saxon Elector Otto the Rich was held captive on Döben and only released again by order of Friedrich Barbarossa.
