The place Koshomkul got its name after Koshomkul Kaba uluu, son of Kaba, wrestler and folk hero. There is a monument in town and a stone mausoleum modeled on a Kyrgyz yurt. In front of it is a 700kg stone that Koschomkul is said to have carried.
