The Church of the Dominicans was built in 1946 as the first new church in the then British occupation zone and soon expanded to the choir and the portal side. Stone material had been delivered from Berlin several years earlier. The construction of the subway had made the demolition of the Dominican church 'Maria de Victoria' in the Karlsstraße inevitable and the Order decided to build a new church with the material in Vechta. Apart from the stones, the pews and the doors were also transported to Vechta.
