The Rio Dão rises in the Serra da Estrela (mountainous region of Portugal) about 2 km northwest of the town of Aguiar da Beira at about 900 m. It flows out after approx. 92 km into the reservoir of the Aguieira dam and then it merges into the Rio Mondego.
