Neoclassical church that was thoroughly renovated in 1834. Fun fact:
According to a folk tale, the people of Leeuwergem left one bell hanging in the church tower in 1798, but buried the best bell in a self-dug well at a spring to prevent the French from removing it. That small spring is located near the church (on the longest part of the slope on which the church was built, now at Saffelstraat 2). When the churches were allowed to reopen under Napoleon in 1801, the farmers wanted to dig out the hidden bell, but they found nothing but water. The people of Leeuwergem therefore named the spring ‘De Klokfontein’ Source: Wikipedia
