The old Schwante smithy is one of the oldest buildings in town. The blacksmith's trade has been practiced here for well over 100 years. The last blacksmith working there (had to) let the forge fire go out in 1972.

A lot of civic engagement prevented the building from being demolished.

A significant special feature is that the smithy has one of the oldest stork nests in the Oberhavel district. Storks have been coming to Schwante to the smithy's nest for exactly 106 years.

After extensive conservation measures in 2001-2003, the smithy is now also used for cultural events.

The active association "Friends of the Schwante Cultural Forge e. V." has been organizing a wide variety of cultural events since 2009.

A blacksmith's shop was mentioned in Schwante as early as the 17th century. The current blacksmith's shop was built around 1849. It is one of the oldest buildings in the town. The blacksmith's fire burned here until 1970. After that, master car mechanic Karl Müller, also known as "Nietenkarl", took over the building and used it for car repairs.
A special feature of the blacksmith's shop is the stork's nest on the blacksmith's chimney, which has existed since 1907 and is therefore the oldest in the Oberhavel district. This nest is still a landmark of Schwante to this day. When the blacksmith's shop was still in operation, the storks of Schwante were known in the area for their black plumage, which was caused by the smoke from the chimney.
The cultural blacksmith's shop is now a place for meetings and exchanges. Blacksmithing demonstrations are held on special occasions.
