Biebrich Water Tower (1897) - WI / Biebrich 🚴‍♂️

The Biebrich Water Tower is a brick structure on Adolfshöhe in Wiesbaden-Biebrich, inaugurated on December 6, 1897. The listed water tower served not only to boost water pressure and supply water to the then-independent town of Biebrich, but also as an observation tower until 1914. The observation platform, 42 meters above the copper roof, could be reached for a fee via the 235 steps of a steel staircase accompanied by a tower attendant. In the year following its inauguration, well over 3,000 visitors were counted. An underground water reservoir was located in the area around the tower for additional water storage. After the merger of the Wiesbaden and Biebrich water supplies, the tower was decommissioned in 1923, although the underground water tanks remained in use for many decades. After the tower became private property in 2003, parts of the underground water reservoir and a pump operator's house were demolished. The water tower's future use has been the subject of heated debate ever since. 🚴‍♂️
