The cross in the Geishorn stands at the southern tip of the Rauenthal vineyard district.

In its artistic design, the 3m high sandstone cross stands out from the other crosses standing on a mighty base.

The sculptor designed the front of the base with a richly decorated tendril ornament in the typical late Baroque style. With a slightly disproportionate body, it only creates a pleasing-looking unity with the powerful base under the slender cross.

The slender cross could have been replaced long after it was built, as it is made of a different sandstone like the body and base and has chamfered edges.

Particularly noteworthy is the Latin inscription on the base, which represents the year, which was typical of the Baroque era and was used as a chronogram by the sculptors of the time.

The year was made out slightly larger in the typeface using Roman numerals consisting of the letters I,V,X,L,C,D and M, it means the year 1753 and the text is in German:

    Stand still, wanderer, behold

Christ opens his arms to you

To bind you with sweet ties makes you desire love.

The time of construction fell during the district dispute between Rauenthal and Eltville and could be considered the reason for the construction. After the renovation, the inauguration took place on August 18, 1991.

Due to land consolidation, the cross had to be rotated 180 degrees and was rededicated on July 10, 2022.
