Nieder Neuendorf Castle, which was built around 1400, used to be located at this location. In 1557 a new Renaissance castle was built under Caspar von Klitzing. Between 1945 and 1990 the property was used as a Soviet headquarters and as an apprentices' home. It was also the headquarters of the GDR border troops. It was demolished in 1967 because it obstructed the view of the border strip.
