In general, in the 50s and 60s of the last century there were only small local music schools on a private basis. This was also the case in Rendsburg, where the Editha and Fabio Dorigo family created the basis for today's Rendsburg music school. In 1973, a non-profit association was finally founded as the sponsor of the Rendsburger Musikschule e.V. Mr. Fabio Dorigo was appointed the first headmaster.

I had my first music lessons with Mr. Fabio Dorigo in the Old Town Double School in the early 1960s. At that time he still lived next to the Old Town School. It's been a long, long time, but it's not forgotten.

He was a very special personality and a brilliant musician.👏😉

The building of the former Holstenschule on Holstenstrasse was rented by the city for the new music school and started with around 300 students. The number grew quickly and in 1981 the music school was able to move into the previous administrative building of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district on Berliner Straße. The number of students continued to grow constantly.

Today there are around 1,400 students. Of these, around 30% come from the city and 70% from the district area. There are teaching at school e.g. Currently over 60 freelancers and six full-time employees. For this work, the sponsoring association receives support from the Rendsburg/Eckernförde district, from the cities of Rendsburg, Büdelsdorf and Eckernförde, from the state of Schleswig-Holstein and the municipalities of Fockbek, Molfsee, Osterrönfeld, Schacht-Audorf and Westerrönfeld. Nevertheless, the school is 75 to 80% self-supporting.
