A late Gothic building, constructed in 1896 near the estate of Imperial Councillor Franz von Zallinger in Kematen, by the Bohemian-born architect Johann Bittner, who worked in Bolzano, is a replica of the Walburgis Church in Göflan in the Vinschgau Valley. The neo-Gothic chapel altar was created in the woodcarving workshop of Alois Winkler. The decorative paintings on the vault are by Franz Scheutz from Upper Austria. The side altar encloses a late Gothic altarpiece with a Madonna enthroned. The late Gothic altarpiece in the nave comes from St. Florian in Laag. At its center is St. Michael, the patron saint of the former Augustinian Canons Regular of St. Michael on the Adige River, flanked by Saints James and Florian.

The family crypt at the entrance to the chancel bears the hopeful inscription: "Sit porta coeli, may the crypt door be the entrance to heaven."

The church has a very slender tower that is 33 meters high.
