The Dreifrankenstein stands at the geographical point where the three Franconian administrative districts of Upper, Middle and Lower Franconia clash. Since this boundary point has shifted in the course of the territorial reform of 1972, there are now two Dreifrankensteine.

At this point is the old Dreifrankenstein, which was set in 1892.

The new Dreifrankenstein (set 1979) is located about 7 km as the crow flies southwest of Heuchelheim.

.... small inconspicuous round stone. To be honest, after the little yellow hiking route sign, I somehow expected a more spectacular stone. But nice to have seen him!

The stele of the old Dreifrankenstein was placed in 1892 at the point where the administrative districts of Upper, Middle and Lower Franconia, created by the Kingdom of Bavaria, met. As a result of the regional reform in 1972, the interface shifted to the southeast. The new Dreifrankenstein, a 2.5 t heavy and 2.80 m wide boulder, stands between Sixtenberg and Freihaslach (see note on the Nuremberg-Würzburg motorway).
