At the end of the Slotstraat near the Vaete lies a large circular mosaic within a rectangle of cobblestones, consisting of 4,500 granite stones.

Above this, a gold-colored spiral of stainless steel winds from one point of the circle into the air to meet the circle again on the opposite side.

A circle – the Earth – and a spiral – the solar orbit – are connected in the image. This connection is further elaborated in the image. The pattern of the sky is visible in the circle of the earth: between the black stones the constellation Little Bear with the North Star lights up white, while yellow stones suggest the constellation Ursa Major. Finally, another constellation is visible in red, the Dragon. Within the large circle, two concentric circles are also included as a symbol for the movement of stars and planets. Iris de Leeuw has thus laid the pattern of the northern starry sky that appears in the northern firmament every year on May 1 at midnight. However, the statue is also a sundial. At midsummer the shadow of the spiral falls exactly on the North Star.
