Hidden in the hills of upper Nidderdale, you will find the Prosperous and Providence lead mines. Opened in 1781 and abandoned in 1889, the ruins you find today represent a typical late 18th and 19th century lead mining and processing operation. With remnants of machinery and a well-preserved flue, the remains are nationally important and have been designated as a Scheduled Monument.
