De Slufter is the only area in the Netherlands where the sea can flow unhindered. At high tide, the creeks in the area fill with water and De Slufter runs full. Here grow only plants that have adapted to the salt water, such as the beach lilac and Strandaster. When they flower in the summer months, they color De Slufter Rosa, Purple and Violet. In the fall, Queller covers the area with a red glow. De Slufter is easily accessible and several hiking trails lead through the area. The De Muy nature reserve borders De Slufter. A small dike separates De Muy from the salty soils in the De Slufter nature reserve. In the area, striking (steep) dunes have been created, but there are also meadows and even a grove called "Oorlogsschip". The areas De Slufter and De Muy have beautiful hiking trails and Staatsbosbeheer has signposted several routes. Also northern is the nature very worth seeing. The beach around the lighthouse is impressively wide and offers a fantastic view of the Wadden Sea and the North Sea.
