The church was first mentioned in 1373, but it is believed that a Romanesque church already stood here at the end of the 9th century. The origin of today's church is believed to be in the middle of the 16th century.
The originally early Baroque church was completely rebuilt and expanded in 1892–1893 according to the design of the architect Karl Weinbrenner in the eclectic style of historicism.
