In September 1945, the Polish Cross was erected at the canal in memory of this. Sculptor Cephas Stauthamer made a statue of a man who falls down, hit in the heart. The male figure was cast in bronze by the Binder foundry.
The nudity of the statue caused some unrest.

Gravel riding
The bronze figure depicts a falling backward, naked male figure — a poignant moment, frozen in time. It represents that fraction of a second in which a human lets go of everything: their strength, their struggle, their existence. The sobriety of the figure only makes the emotion stronger.
