The Oberwiesen outpost at an altitude of 1517 m had the main function of an observatory controlling the Val d'Astico and was an indispensable point for optical communication with the observatory located on Mount Rust and the Belvedere-Gschwent and Sebastiano-Cherle forts.
This structure was totally autonomous from the fort and had its own commander.
It was a battery with an infantry fighting station under fixed armour, built of concrete with armored structures carved into the rock.
Armed with a machine gun in the revolving observatory dome and with rapid-fire weapons in two metal barracks.
