The flood retention basin in Bönen was built as part of the renaturation of the Seseke and has developed into a hot spot for biodiversity. When planning the basin, the Lippe Association integrated ecological measures that created various habitats for animal and plant species. This has led to the establishment of rare species such as marsh warblers, lapwings and little owls. The Lippeverband is actively committed to protecting endangered habitats and species, including the little owl. The flood retention basin is an example of how flood protection and species protection can be combined. The Lippeverband is pursuing a biodiversity initiative to counteract the decline in biodiversity and is carrying out ecological measures on bodies of water and the association's own facilities. The “Living Lippe” program has significantly increased biodiversity in the region, particularly through the renaturation of river mouths and the improvement of water quality.

The rain retention basin is really very spacious and is right next to the Seseke cycle path. Top.
