Justification for the monument
There is a public interest in preserving the limestone quarries in the south of Söhlde for historical and urban planning reasons. They are defining elements of the town's historic chalk industry, in which the stone material was quarried, which was ground in the approximately 14 former mills around Söhlde from the early 19th century.
