The Markdorfer Latschebrunnen is a reminder of the times when the Markdorfer girls passed the square in front of the Krone inn with their “Molkewagenele” on the way to the dairy. Here stood the young boys who were looking for a female acquaintance and looking longingly after the girls. The young men were the “traipsers” and they “traipsed” around - met here, perhaps even walked up and down.

Anyone who entered the city through the Lower City Gate had to cross the bridge over the stream past the square in front of the crown - an ideal "viewing point" for the "Latschen".

The topic was taken up by the artist Esther Seidel. Her bronze sculpture depicts two young women and two young men leaning on the fountain, clearly looking after them. However, the figures are definitely wearing contemporary clothing.
