    Her name is misleading insofar as it is by no means a castle, but one of the two remaining houses of the former domain Numburg, whose buildings were sanded when the reservoir was built. The state of Thuringia made this house available to the nature lovers of the surrounding districts Nordhausen, Sondershausen and Sangerhausen, who transformed it as a consultation base for nature conservation purposes.

    The Numburg Cave is the largest cave of the Kyffhäuser area on the south bank of the dam Kelbra on the northern edge of the Kyffhäusermassivs or the Windleite east of Auleben.
