Bike Touring Highlight
Reinhold Tilling is considered one of Germany's rocket pioneers and became a celebrity in the field with his work and inventions. Some of his ideas laid important foundations for rocket science and can now be found in the space shuttle.
During the First World War, the young Tilling was still a pilot, after which he worked as an aerobatic pilot and flight manager at Netterheide Airport. From 1929 to 1933 he worked in the workshop on Gut Arenshorst on the manufacture of reusable step rockets. On October 10, 1933, however, an attempt went wrong and he, powder laboratory technician Angela Buddenböhmer and employee Friedrich Kur died of their serious injuries.
The accident happened exactly where the memorial stone stands today.
