Many cinemas used to be called Odeon, but in Greece the word now refers to music schools. In ancient times, an odeon was a small open-air theater. No people were thrown to the lions, no great ancient tragedies performed. Concerts and readings took place in the Odeon, pantomimes like that of Herondas of Kos were performed. A complete text of it has even been preserved and also translated into German. In it he describes a sacrificial scene from the Asklipío on Kos.

Admission is free and a visit is definitely worth it.....
