Many cinemas used to be called Odeon, but in Greece the word now refers to music schools. In ancient times, an odeon was a small open-air theater. No people were thrown to the lions, no great ancient tragedies performed. Concerts and readings took place in the Odeon, pantomimes like that of Herondas of Kos were performed.
