Poperinge and Hazebrouck sign cooperation agreement
Christof Dejaegher and Valentin Belleval, mayors of Poperinge and Hazebrouck, officially presented the cooperation agreement between the two cities on August 31. Together with the municipal council members, they also inaugurated the new bus line between Poperinge and Hazebrouck. This pilot project together with De Lijn, Vervoersregio Westhoek and DVV Westhoek starts on September 1.

Poperinge and Hazebrouck want to strengthen each other by exchanging information. The cities both have approximately 20,000 inhabitants and are located along the French-Belgian border.

Various cross-border events are planned. On October 8, the sports services of Poperinge and Hazebrouck will jointly organize a first activity, 'Poperinge meets Hazebrouck'. Between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. you cycle or mountain bike a loop of 30 or 60 km between the cities. You can also participate in a guided city walk in both city centers.

    Smooth bus and train connection
Poperinge and Hazebrouck want to make commuting in the region more sustainable with a bus connection. The line also ensures that residents of Hazebrouck and Steenvoorde can easily reach the trade center and the swimming pool of Poperinge. In addition, the bus connects both train stations. The TGV departs from Hazebrouck with a smooth connection to Paris, Lyon and London, among others.

The new bus line 62 runs every day every 2 hours from Poperinge via Abele and Steenvoorde to Hazebrouck and back. For a single ride you pay 2.50 euros, the rate of De Lijn. The timetable and tickets can be found at delijn.be.

The pilot project runs from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024 and can be continued after a positive evaluation.
