grinding mill Schwerin
From magnificent floors to fine walking stick knobs, works of art made of stone and precious stones were produced in the Schwerin grinding mill for the ducal court. The mill is located on the edge of the stately castle park and is in function and used as a museum. Visitors can find out about the stone-cutting and stone-grinding workshops and get to the bottom of the living conditions of the day laborers and grinding millers. The museum is open March-October Mon-Sun 10am-5pm.
The grinding mill in Schwerin is a water mill with an undershot water wheel. In the functional display facility, a saw for large natural stones and a grinding table for grinding the sawn stones are operated using reconstructed technology from the 18th century. The visitor can experience the atmosphere of a historic stone grindery up close. In addition to large stone objects, small pieces of jewelery made from minerals and semi-precious stones have also been produced in the mill since the end of the 18th century. Some of them can be admired in the exhibition. There is a small museum shop.
The grinding mill is an external location of the Schwerin registry office and can be used for weddings.
