One of the most striking buildings in Lauterecken is the former royal rent office, which was built in 1897/98 - a well-preserved example of Bavarian "authority architecture", which was also common in the Palatinate around 1900. The “Tax Office”, as the authority was later called, was dissolved in 1967. Today the police are housed in the building.
