The “Jump over the Emscher” bridge is being built here at the Emscher water crossing and the Rhine-Herne Canal. Completion is scheduled for 2023."The 450 meter long bridge in a double S shape, developed on the basis of an international architectural competition, leads once over the Rhine-Herne Canal and twice over the Emscher. In front of the bridge structure in the east is the so-called Place of the Layers, which forms the start or entrance for the bridge structure. A counterpart to the Place of the Layers can be found in the west of the bridge. The West Bridge Forecourt extends between the western bridge exit and the Emscherland Landscape Park with the “Glass Shaft”. The Bridge Forecourt West forms a clasp with the square of the layers and thus inserts the structure into the landscape. As a foot and cycle path bridge, it will in the future accommodate the regional cycle paths Emscher-Park-Radweg and Emscher-Weg, thus connecting the two cities of Castrop-Rauxel and Recklinghausen. The densely populated districts of Castrop-Rauxel-Ickern, -Habinghorst and -Henrichenburg will be connected to the nature and water adventure park in the Recklinghausen area." - Emschergenossenschaft Lippeverband

"Jump over the Emscher" is a pedestrian and cyclist bridge that spans the Emscher and the Rhine-Herne Canal. It is located in Castrop-Rauxel on the border with Recklinghausen in the immediate vicinity of Emscherland ("Nature and Water Adventure Park").
The bridge was supposed to be completed in 2022, but now it was finally ready on September 30, 2024. It closes an important gap on the Emscher-Weg and the Emscher-Park-Weg.
The financing was provided, among other things, with federal funds that are intended for special architecturally valuable objects.
