This old lime kiln is the restored remains of a small lime distillery owned by the Nelles family from Nohn. The lime distillery was in operation until 1938. The furnaces of the old lime distilleries (4 shaft funnel furnaces) were fired with wood and brushwood bundles (jumps). Two or three men had to keep watch at the lime kiln day and night during the firing process and push hill by hill (2,000 - 3,000 hills) into the combustion chamber. From the 450 quintals of limestone or dolomite stone entered, about 200 to 250 quintals of lime could be obtained.
