From the center of Borgo Ampiano, instead of keeping to the main road to Valeriano, take the Strada dell'ancona, on the left, and you will find yourself on a beautiful cycle path dedicated to Ottavio Bottecchia, a Bersagliere on bicycle in the Great War. It's not very long, but it's a nice taste of the sweetness of these roads and these hills.

"On 4 November 1917 we find in Lestans a young Bersaglieri cyclist specialized in assault explorations, assigned to General Di Giorgio's Special Army Corps. He is equipped with a Bianchi military bicycle equipped with a machine gun and all the military equipment It weighs as much as 30 kilograms. This is Ottavio Bottecchia, future winner of the Tour de France in 1924 and 1925. For his behavior on that day, he was awarded the Bronze Medal for military valor: "With calm and courage under the violent enemy fire adjusted highly effective and mowing shots with its own machine gun, causing serious losses to the adversary and stopping his advance.
