The village square is still the center of Hoisdorf today.
A map from the 18th century shows Hoisdorf as a village green with more than
20 farms arranged around the elongated village square.
The village square already had a pond at that time. It was used to water the cattle and as a fire pond. The wealthier farmers had their farms right on the village square.
One of them was the farm bailiff, who mediated between the villagers and the landlord.
In the 19th century, more buildings were added. For example, the schoolhouse, the village pub, a grocery store and the fire station of the volunteer fire department. And Hoisdorf continued to grow. By 1939, around 800 people were already living here.
The Second World War attracted bombed-out families from Hamburg and refugees to Hoisdorf. New settlement areas were created in the Hoisdorf district, located northwest of the village center. The population tripled. Agriculture is still the defining element of the village. That is why it is present in the Hoisdorf coat of arms, which shows a plow, a linden tree and a gear.
The gear symbolizes industry and trade in recent times.
Modern branches of industry that secure the livelihood of the Hoisdorfers.
The Peace Oak stands on the large lawn by the village pond together with linden trees, willows and chestnuts. The old village green now has a park-like character, inviting you to take a stroll and linger. The maypole and the memorial and monument
for the victims of both world wars are also located there.
