A very beautiful and idyllic landscape. Beautiful dog round to relax.

"In the cold times, ice shaped the Lower Rhine, either through glaciers or a frozen subsoil (permafrost). At the same time, the sedimentation of moraines took place, which gave the flat Lower Rhine landscape at least a certain relief. The flowing waters at that time had different dynamics, depending on the Season and climatic phase are related to the water availability and the load with sediments. Rivers and streams were characterized by an overgrown runoff. In the last Vistula glaciation, the low terrace was created by filling up.

10,000 years ago, drainage patterns changed because the climate transitioned to our current warm period, the Holocene. The drainage was now more linear and the rivers formed the meanders that are still typical today. In doing so, they cut into the lower terrace. Smaller rivers and streams eventually silted up or became bogs.

However, the main receiving water, the Rhine, continued to deepen; At the same time, its (periodically flooded) floodplains and oxbow lakes emerged - such as the early Holocene "Die Roos", which was still a fully "functional" tributary of the Rhine in the middle of the 19th century.

The oxbow “Die Roos” lies largely in the west of the Rheinaue Friemersheim nature reserve. The area is, among other things, a refuge for insects (dragonflies). The use of parts of the water for fishing is being discussed critically, among other things in view of the seasonal water levels."
