the original castle was founded at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. During the Thirty Years' War, it served as an imperial fortress and a prison for Swedish prisoners. In 1696, the order of the Teutonic Knights became the owners, who owned the castle until 1939. They also gave it its current form in the years 1895-1910 with a pseudo-Gothic reconstruction. The romantic appearance of the castle also charmed filmmakers, who filmed e.g. the fairy tales About Princess Jasněnka and the Flying Shoemaker or Princess Fantaghiro here.
