The stepped gables and the arched doorway with sandstone capitals on both sides are also striking. After the town was threatened by the Bermating farmers in 1525, a porch was added in 1534 to reinforce the gate of the previously very narrow tower.
The Untertor was the starting point for the daily night watchman round.
