The Carrie M. McLain Museum is the Nome's History Museum and named for Carrie M. McLain who arrived in Nome as a young girl in 1905. She collected oral histories, ivory artwork, and historical photos from Nome and the Seward Peninsula, which comprised the founding collection of the museum. In this recently renovated museum, there are interactive exhibits showcasing the natural landscape, Alaska Native artwork, and Nome's evolution from Tent City to a regional hub. Step into a miner's tent, listen to historical audio recordings, and immerse yourself in the stories of Nome's early days in the mini-theatre. Admission is free so there is really no reason why not to stop in and learn about the fascinating history of Nome!
