The Gothic-Baroque church of St. Nikolaus von Heggelbach was mentioned as early as 1353 and probably dates back to the beginnings of the community. But even back then it was just a branch of the church in Leutkirch and it is still that way today.

The church was built in the High Middle Ages in the Gothic style. This architectural style is still reflected in the windows, the apse and parts of the interior.

There is little in the Baroque style inside. The building was given a Baroque style, especially on the outside, which can be seen in the onion dome roof. The baroque splendor of the interior was sold in the 19th century in order to install the neo-Gothic elements. The altars and the pulpit are in this style.

The church was enlarged from 1614 and was not consecrated until 1706. During construction work, the tower of the church collapsed, destroying the nave of the church. In addition to the reconstruction, the late consecration was also due to the Thirty Years' War (1618 to 1648) (source: oberschwaben-tipps.de/heggelbach-seine-kirche/).
