The exceptional cultural heritage of Wallonia since 1970 attracts many curious visitors every year. A 1.5 km walk along the Amblève reveals to the walker mysterious, rounded rocks in the Amblève bed, which, despite their centuries-old battle with the river, undeniably defy time. Legend has it that these pearl veined quartzites are the result of a pact between Hubert Chefneux, miller of the Fonds de Quarreux, and the devil. However, geology enthusiasts prefer the scientific explanation: the quartzite, which, unlike schist stones, is very resistant and almost impervious to erosion, was not affected by the work of the Amblève in digging its bed. Lovers of legends or nature lovers, the Fonds de Quarreux invite you on a journey through time and imagination.

The legend: Hubert Chefneux, miller of the Fond de Quarreux, received the beautiful windmill he dreamed of from the devil in exchange for his soul. But to save this soul, the miller's wife woke up. She hid in the mill, hugging a medal of Our Lady of Dieupart in her hands, and prayed all night.
When the sun rose, the wheels of the mill refused to turn, and in anger Satan caused the mill to be torn down, its colossal blocks trailing down the mountain to the bed of the Amel.
