Both the sculpture and the Loimaa stone stand are made of red and black granite. Unveiled in 2012, the work was purchased with funds from the city's beautification fund. Laila Pullinen's work is already in the City of Turku's art collection, which specializes in sculptures, but Ikaros is the artist's first sculpture to be installed in a public space in Turku.
