If you look at the relief of the landscape around Lake Plön, you will first notice that Bosau is located on the eastern shore of the lake on a 20-25 m high headland, from the middle of which a 27 m high hill rises. The water level of Lake Plön is approximately 20 m above sea level. The oval Bosau hill faces north-south and slopes down towards the mainland, i.e. to the east. The high bank, which also faces north-south, runs through behind the protruding hill in the east. The depression between the hill and the high bank gives the impression that Bosau is an island. The small Bischofswarder within the Bosau northern bay and the large Bischofswarder, which shields this bay from the western main body of water, are the same height as the Bosau peninsula and the headland or land connection known as the Warder further north. This elevation level can be followed all the way to Plön, the district of Fegetasche. East of Bosau, the terrain rises rapidly up to the Steinbusch-Brackrade area, where the Mühlenberg rises 89.30 metres high.
