The current Collegiate Church of Santa María de Iria Flavia is the fourth after Santa Eulalia and was built between 1708 and 1714, under the order of the Archbishop of Santiago, Fray Antonio Monroy and entrusted to master Pedro García de Cotobade.

Santa María de Adina is one of the oldest churches in Galicia. The first church was built at the time of the rise of Christianity and was burned down by Almanzor at the end of the 10th century. In the 12th century, Archbishop Gelmírez ordered the reconstruction of the building. It was completely remodeled over two and a half centuries ago. The church was a bishop's seat and the first Marian church in the world.
